Christian Benteke might be having a medical this week, but Brendan Rodgers might be interested in hearing that Mario Gotze has suggested he’d be open to new challenges abroad. The talented Bayern Munich striker and World Cup Winner is not first choice under Pep Guardiola, and a move to the Premier League is thought to be his most likely destination. The Daily Express quoted him saying “I think that playing abroad might be a good experience for me: new languages, new cultures. I might like it. Let’s see what the future holds”
Also, Liverpool could beat EPL rivals Arsenal and Manchester City to the signing of Lyon midfielder Yohan Gourcuff, suggests the Metro.
The 29-year-old, who joined Lyon from Bordeaux in 2010, has made no secret of his desire to move to the Premier League. He is currently out of contract.
The French international had been expected to move back to his former club Bordeaux where he was a hero, but that no longer seems to be the case. Although he never found the same form at Lyon, Gourcuff is known for his intelligent distribution, and it’s reported that Brendan Rodgers sees the Frenchman as an ideal replacement for Steven Gerrard.
LFC are thought to be about to raise their bid for Asier Illaramendi to £13.8 million as they look to fill the void left by the departed Captain Fantastic Mr Gerrard. The club is apparently negotiating a fee for the Real Madrid midfielder, but Rafa Bentiez’s may be reluctant to sell as he has taken 25-year-old on their pre-season tour to Australia.
