Liverpool were not at their fluent best but held on well enough to secure a crucial win against title rivals Manchester City on the last day of 2016. This win was very difficult and has prompted the losing manager, Pep Guardiola to name Jurgen Klopp as the best in the world by some distance at attacking in numbers. The 1-0 win saw Liverpool probe the faltering City defense multiple times and scored with a very good headed goal from midfielder, Wijnaldum who met a very good cross from Adam Lallana.
Guardiola was far from bitter in the after game press conference and admitted his admiration for Jurgen Klopp whom he has previously faced in the Bundesliga. Guardiola, whose team were second best for most of the evening could not manage to break down the Liverpool defense even with star striker Sergio Aguero returning from suspension and looked second best for parts of the evening.
