The Frenchman was appointed manager in 1998 alongside Roy Evans. However, Evans quit that same year and Houiller was indivually in charge. His most notable work at Liverpool apart from his honours was his trust in the youth players such as Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard. Houiller gave Gerrard his debut and 5 years later handed the captaincy to him taking it off Sami Hyypia in the process. This suggests the amount of trust Houiller had in his players. He won 7 trophies at Liverpool, most notably winning the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup in the 2000/2001 season.
